Slip Disc

Since childhood i have always dreaded hospitals, patients, doctors, diseases, colds, coughs, fevers etc. Not too long ago, I had an accident which I have already put into words here - An encounter with a scorpion. It was no more than an injury which takes atleast 2-3 days to heal. On the second day after the accident, I was so scared, traumatized actually :) that I had been to a doc to see if I had some serious fracture.

A month back, it was Bird flu, and as irony would have it, got ill during that very time. I was so scared, I had been to the doc to find out if I had a bird-damn-flu.

Some days back, got to know that saubz is suffering from slip disc. Now, thats something to be worried about !!! Just today, when I woke up in the morning, my back was as stiff as a staff ! A little bend to the front, right, left or back was like a 1000 pins pricked at once. This, coupled with the fact that since 3 years I have been plying to and fro between Aundh and Bibewadi e'day for work on a bike, not much exercise lately, birthday-bumps(some, right on the spine) and bad bed led me believe I have a slip disc !!! Just been to a doc(who was no orthopaedic specialist) who suggested, it was not more than a mere spasm. But, is safe not better than sorry ? She gave me a very apt prescription - Tablet-bhujang asan 2 times a day before food. Tonic: Gymming everyday. Tablet: Dont Worry. Even then, till the time I dont show this to an orthopaedic, I know, I wont get out of the scary feeling hoping and praying this not to be a slip disc !!!

Anyways, Lesson learnt: As soon as this spasm $#)+ is over, join a gym, coz ... especially for s/w engineers like us, its A gym a day that keeps the doc away !

Don't worry Mak...same thing happened with me when I was in Selectica. It used to pain like hell. First of all change your chair. Secondly, used heavy office bag while you go to and fro between Aundh and Selectica...trust me it works. The scientific reason behind that is, our ribs which are horizontally placed in our back with spine supporting them, tend to move apart from each other vertically due to jerks from bad roads in pune and this is what causes pain. Use of heavy bag, keeps them in place. You can try this for sometime. I hav experimented several times to prove this.....I stopped using bag for few weeks and then started using a heavy bag again and the results proved my point. One more thing which you can try to prove this is, try swinging with your hands on a twin bar (...something like Twin Bars) or cubicle walls, you ll observe that your back will pain terribly.
